Not a lot has happened on this blog for several years but the garden is still going strong.

Early 2014 Garden update.
Well so far winter has been very mild and also very wet! This has been good for the frost tender plants (I still have Aeoniums outside) but not good for me gardening. I have started on the raised beds with I am constructing out of 8 foot long new railway sleepers. Carrying them on slippy mud is tricky to say the least. So here are a couple of videos to show how it is all progressing.
And more on the sleepers

Jubaea bed and masterplan
Hi all,
This week I have created a raised bed to plant my large Jubaea palm in. I have also planted a few Trachycarpus princeps and a T Manipur in this bed. This video shows the whole process.

Here is how the Jubaea bed fits in with the rest of the garden as shown in this rough sketch
As you can see there is lot to get on with! Hopefully within the next three years the main structural elements of the garden will be in place.

New garden; far from tropical or exotic yet....
Phew! It's been several months since I last blogged. This is partly due to giving up the internet for lent and partly due to the fact I've moved house and done some proper renovation!
I have decided to mainly do a video blog from now on as I don't have the time to fit everything in plus video updates give a real insight into what I'm doing.
First off here is my new garden back in February when I had just got the keys to the property.

First off here is my new garden back in February when I had just got the keys to the property.
As you will have seen I've got a lot of work to do. The ground is very heavy clay and gets very wet and sticky in winter so I will need to create a lot of raised beds in order to plant my palms and other exotic plants in. Since the video was made I have mainly been clearing away all the rubbish, removing the larger greenhouse, burning the sheds, cutting down the tops of conifers and basically getting back to basics. I have planted two palms; a Butia in the back garden in a raised area and a large Trachycarpus fortunei in the front garden. This next video shows this as well as me moving all my big plants!
Hope you enjoyed the above video!:)
Next stage will be to dig over the soil and continue to remove all the rubbish (old flags, concrete etc) not the most exciting or glamorous jobs, but they have to be done!
